The 59th Annual 2014 Village Voice OBIE Awards (OBIES 2014) co-hosted by Award winning producer/actress Tamara Tunie, Spring Awakening, and Obie Award winner actor Hamish Linklater, The Crazy Ones, honoring theatrical excellence and achievements in Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway commenced Monday, May 19, 8:00 pm at the historical Webster Hall ballroom, New York. A gala reception with live music by The Blue Vipers of Brooklyn preceded the awards. The 2014 OBIES included a special performance of the new musical Fun Home by SYDNEY LUCAS. Lucas became the first in the history of the Obies to receive an award at age 10 for her performance. The Obie Lifetime Achievement Award presented by Kelli O'Hara went to ESTELLE PARSONS.

FIRST TIME FEST 2014 (FTF 2014), hosted by NeueHouse was held at Loews Village VII Cinemas, New York, April 3-7, 2014. FTF 2014, The Second Time Around showcased twelve new films by prominent filmmakers from around the world along with panel discussions, awards ceremony and the First Time Fest Grand Prize for theatrical distribution. This year's Opening and Closing films were PARIS IS BURNING, directed by Jennie Livingston and TARGETS, directed by Peter Bogdanovich.

The 67th Festival De Cannes was held at Cannes Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, France, May 14-25, 2014. The Opening Night World Premiere of GRACE OF MONACO, directed by Olivier Dahan commenced May 13th. This year's Cannes Awards Palme d’or went to Nuri Bilge CEYLAN for Winter Sleep and Best Director Award went to BENNETT MILLER for Foxcatcher.







HOME 3D, a DreamWorks animated film, directed by Tim Johnson starring Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna and Steve Martin in theaters March 25, 2015.




Keynote Speaker Rick Smolan discussed his 1977 photojournalist assignment for National Geographic chronicling Robyn Davidson's nine-month lone journey across the Gibson Desert “Outback” in Australia at TRACKS: From the Cover of National Geographic to the Silver Screen Presentation during the 2013 PhotoPlus Expo in New York. A book release signing of "From Alice to Ocean: Alone Across the Outback," immediately followed with co-author Rick Smolan.


TRACKS a biopic drama of Robyn Davidson's lone journey across the Australian outback, directed by John Curran, distributed by The Weinstein Company, starring Mia Wasikowska as Robyn Davidson and Adam Driver as Rick Smolan to be released in theaters soon.








GABRIEL is a powerful and intimate film that captures the innocence and purity of a heart in search for love despite mental health challenges. Set in present day New York, Gabriel (Rory Culkin) a young adult institutionalized with a history of mental illness returns home to his family in the Hamptons. A prisoner in his mind with unresolved inner pain and anguish who doesn’t think about his diagnosis, yearns to live an ordinary life (get a job, have a house, get married). Unable to make rational decisions, cope with his mother (Lynn Cohen) and brother Mathew (David Call), Gabriel escapes to New York City in search to find the only person in the world that really understands him, his first true love Alice Elizabeth Norton (Emily Meade). TIME IS ILLMATIC is a provocative music documentary about the life of a prophetic poet, American hip hop recording artist Nas. A native New Yorker of African American descent with a family history of Jazz musicians began as a rap singer in the Queensbridge Housing Projects at age fifteen. In 1994, Nas debut album Illmatic, revealing the philosophy of urban life, dedicating childhood friends Willie Graham (Ill Will) and many others became an iconic hip hop phenomenon selling over 1 million copies.  Today, Harvard University and Hiphop Archive offers the Nasir Jones Fellowship in honor of Nas achievement.
